The Lead Scientific Research Writer includes all the duties and responsibilities of the Scientific Research Writer, in addition to a significant role in mentorship in this newly created program.
The Lead Scientific Research Writer is a key member of the Research team responsible for providing high-level guidance and support to researchers on scientific writing and grantsmanship expertise in all phases of the research writing process, including assistance in coordination and preparation of grants, concept papers, and manuscripts.
The Scientific Research Writer specializes in substantive scientific and technical editing, stylistic and content editing, rewriting, formatting, editing and proofreading manuscripts for publication, internal and external grant proposals and study protocols. This includes critical review of the text for clarity, persuasiveness and comprehensive presentation. The primary emphasis of the writer is on reading, reviewing, analyzing and providing theoretical guidance for grant proposals and original manuscripts for scientists and clinicians.
Education
Master's or PhD degree in a medical science, scientific or technical writing field. (Required)
Experience

Previous experience and success in procurement of funding from government and philanthropic agencies. (Required)
Eight (8) years of experience of scientific writing including grant writing, writing/drafting scientific publications, correspondences, reports, summaries, regulatory paperwork and other research-related documents. Experience in clinical, epidemiological or basic research including assisting with in-library and on-line literature searches and preparation of reports and draft manuscripts (Required)
Special Skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. (Required)
Demonstrated knowledge of business correspondence, marketing materials and reports. (Required)
Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills. Ability to easily change writing styles to fit the audience and voice of the piece. (Required)
