Center for Asthma Research
The Center for Asthma Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center invites applications for a Research Program Manager. We are seeking an experienced individual with training and experience in pediatric and/or adult and/or clinical studies. The individual should ideally have experience in broad aspects of human studies, regulatory procedures, data management, and multi-site investigations. Experience in either asthma or pediatric studies would be helpful, although not essential. The ideal candidate will a) aide in coordinating research projects within a dynamic, extramurally-funded and productive clinical and epidemiologic research program focused on asthma prevention within the supportive infrastructure of the Center for Asthma Research, b) assist in developing new grant proposals, and c) aide in data coordination activities.
Experience, knowledge and assistance in the coordination of human studies and/or observational epidemiologic investigations is essential. Successful candidates should have an MPH, MSCI or equivalent degree (or have relevant experience), research coordination experience, significant regulatory experience, grant management experience, data management, and outstanding organizational, writing and communication skills.
Background and interest in human studies or clinical trials, particularly in disease prevention, improving care, or implementing health innovations.
Strong research, analytical, critical thinking, organizational, data management, grant and budget management and communication skills.
Ability to organize complex studies.
Proactive and flexible demeanor with ability to effectively work in a team environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate.
Ability to remain goal-oriented and keep investigative team on track.

Key Functions Include:
Regulatory and contract document submission and management (35%)
Grant management (searches and data summary, background writing) (10%)
Manage bibliographies (5%)
Grant budget preparation (5%)
Data management oversight (15-20%) - this involves oversight and checking or analytic datasets for analysis prepared by the data team and the sharing of datasets with collaborators or de-identified metadata that requires upload for data mandated by the NIH to be made public. This requires a skill set of someone who is familiar with electronic databases, manipulation and data re-formatting, and data checking.
Data analysis (moderate familiarity with R or SAS or STATA) - (10-15%) - Ability to generate tables and reports needed to manage research team. This requires some basic biostatistical skills and ability to generate standardized reports in collaboration with the data team.
Report preparation, data and scientific updates (10%) - writing up summaries of data, conference call minutes, preparing agendas, creating tables and/or figures for grants or manuscripts.
Coordination of and running meetings and conference calls (5%)
Oversight and coordination of students and research assistants on team and delegation of duties

Dr. Hartert's lab is seeking to identify causal risk factors for asthma, understand their mechanism of action, and develop and test primary and secondary prevention strategies for asthma and allergic diseases.
