JOB SUMMARY The Research Scientist develops research projects, and designs and performs experiments to compliment the goals of the institute. This position coordinates and provides technical direction to Clinical Research lab staff and Principal Investigators (PI). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Develops research projects, and designs and performs experiments. Analyzes data to determine next objectives; interprets and reports results. Collaborates with other lab staff and PIs to ensure efficient and cost-effective completion of all projects, shared data and resources. Analyzes, interprets, compiles and reports project results. Writes publications, protocols or proposals. Makes modifications based on data and aims. Ensures that all safety procedures and research protocols are understood and adhered to by the Clinical Research staff. Follows good laboratory practices (GLP) and manufacturing practices (GMP), as required. Assists with budgets; monitors expenses. Organizes, manages and maintains the laboratory, equipment, data, specimens and laboratory records. Fulfills continuing education and regulatory requirements related to research performed including safety and compliance training. Leads internal and external educational activities including attending seminars, presentations and journal club. Mentors staff. KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Knowledge of basic lab techniques to include: pipetting, staining, culture techniques and aliquoting. Able to troubleshoot instruments and perform lab maintenance tasks. Ability to understand and interpret results, and determine modifications. Understanding of work safety practices. Skilled in use of computer software related to research needs, including presentation and data analysis programs. Supervisory ability. Ability to give scientific presentations. Ability to write scientific publications.
