Job Summary : The Program Manager position provides support for biomedical science programs that impact the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) academic research enterprise. As part of the Scientific Program Office team, the Program Manager advances the strategic directions and activities of the Executive Vice President for Research. The position involves collaboration across academic units of VUMC, and with the Vanderbilt University (VU) Office of the Vice Provost for Research and the VU Dean of Basic Sciences office on matters of shared research interest.
High-level responsibilities of this position support the Office of Research's broad portfolio of research-enabling activities. These include managing internal funding programs; coordinating the development and tracking of institutional research metrics; creating research-related content for Office of Research communications; providing central support for scientific shared research resources; and supporting special institutional projects and programs that advance biomedical research. Frequent interaction with executive leadership, faculty, and administrators is expected. The Program Manager will operate under the guidance of the Senior Director and Scientific Program Officer and will grow to manage programs independently.

Basic Qualifications: This position requires an advanced degree in biomedical sciences or related fields , and 36 months of relevant experience in a research setting. Exceptional organizational, verbal and written communication skills are required.
Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience:
Experience with data analysis/visualization and database management strongly preferred.
Experience with science communications, including professional website and social media account management, strongly preferred.
Experience with research project management and grant-writing strongly preferred.
Experience with advanced analytical software tools is a plus.
Ph.D. in biomedical sciences or related fields is a plus.
The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate who is seeking experience in agency/foundation scientific program management and/or research policy and administration.
Facilitate centralized research activities and projects that advance VUMC's strategic and scientific goals:
Coordinate the day-to-day aspects of strategic institutional projects and programs, including management of processes and budgets.
Facilitate the scientific oversight process and special programs for shared research resources.
Manage and advise on institutional research training initiatives, including physician-scientist and postdoctoral scholar programs.
Develop and implement public relations efforts and financial support for these initiatives as appropriate.
Organize and help lead meetings and events for project teams and research advisory groups.
Support the Academic Performance Metrics process:
Work closely with the Scientific Program Officer to review, collate, track, analyze and report data.
Support an increase in prestigious external recognitions, providing administrative and editorial support for development of competitive award nominations.
Advise on development of new metrics and data collection methods.
Draft, manage and update research-related content and correspondence:
Manage content for research-related websites, social media, and other publicly available resources.
Write and update grant-ready text for use by VUMC investigators in funding applications and progress reports.
Review and announce time-sensitive grant/award opportunities and breaking research developments.
Prepare technical presentations for senior research leadership.
Draft and edit letters of support.
Support proposal development/editing as needed.
Coordinate the announcement and selection processes for competitive funding opportunities, including grants programs from internal and external sponsors:
Maintain working knowledge of internal, federal, and non-federal funding programs.
Identify and advertise new research funding opportunities.
Maintain proposal databases and track application outcomes.
Administer internal selection processes by organizing faculty review panels.
Coordinate timelines and review processes with internal partners including VUMC Development and the VU Office of the Vice Provost for Research.
