The Research Assistant I will work on three projects focused on the transition to adulthood and adult outcomes for individual with intellectual/developmental disabilities: 1) a survey study examining the relationship between day-to-day activities and mental health for adolescents/ adults with ASDs 2) an NIH-funded longitudinal study examining the development of young adults with developmental disabilities as they transition from high school to adulthood; and 3) an NIH-funded 3-site randomized-controlled trial testing a parent advocacy intervention to improve the transition out of high school for youth with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their families.
Working with the PI, Study Coordinator, and other research staff, the research assistant will be involved in the design, execution, and analysis of these studies. During the first year of the position, the research assistant will primarily work on the longitudinal survey study and will assist on the other studies as needed. The specific tasks to be performed with guidance and supervision from the PI and Study Coordinator are:
Collect data from youth/adults with disabilities and their parents, including scheduling, technical assistance to participants, and conducting behavioral assessments and clinical interviews in person and/or over the phone
Subject recruitment and screening
Keeping paper file documentation and accurate electronic records of enrolled participants
Build and maintain REDCap databases
Data entry and data management
Assist in writing and preparing documents for IRB applications, amendments and annual reviews
Conduct literature searches and summarize findings
Assist in the coordination of participant travel, space, and study supplies
Assist in intervention implementation
Prepare data for reports, audits, and meetings
Assist in communication of the study findings via abstracts, manuscripts and presentations
Keep track of administrative databases regarding enrolled participants, study incentives, and other aspects of the studies as needed
Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experiences:
Familiarity with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families
Clinical experience and /or experience administering a research protocol to human subjects
Ability to work effectively in a team
Excellent communication, written, verbal, and people skills.
Excellent organizational ability, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
Motivated to learn new skills and ability to multitask
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel and PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of data entry and analysis programs such as SPSS, MATLAB and REDCap
Ability to work some nights and weekends
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends , as the study requires.
