The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate and administer the activities of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System, Office of Research and Development. The incumbent plays a vital role in research involving human subjects.
Manages the day-to-day functions of the IRB including overseeing the meeting schedule, agenda, meeting minutes, and action item notification to research teams using an electronic project submission and review system and:
Schedules monthly regular and special meetings to ensure study review and approval
Conducts pre-reviews of electronic and paper documents, uploads, and updates documents. Prepares, manages, and follows up on correspondence from the IRB to researchers and study teams, and keeps study teams aware of upcoming project expiration timelines
Communicates database updates to the database, forms/templates updates, and corrections to project submissions with database administrator
Retrieves reports from the database to assist with ensuring compliance and prepare metrics for quality control and to monitor turnaround time for committee actions and reviews.
Manages communications with study teams, IRB members, other subcommittee administrators and facility staff.
Facilitates assignment of primary reviewers. Arranges for consultations between IRB reviewer and study teams, maintains communication with IRB Chair and reviewers.
Provides training to new users of the database.
Prepares meeting minutes and prepares approval letters, or stipulation notifications. Ensures approved documents are appropriately stamped or signed accordingly
Verifies that approval/expiration dates in the database are accurate and arranges for correction when necessary.
