Oversees the office and staff responsible for assuring compliance with University and governmental regulations in the areas of research involving the use of human research participants, research animals, recombinant DNA, and biohazardous agents. Develops and implements procedures to assure institutional compliance with governmental regulations related to the protection of human subjects, human and ethical use of animals used in research and the responsible practice of research; develops and maintains information systems to track research protocol-related data; develops educational programs for PIs, IRB members, IACUC members, and other key research personnel; analyzes research protocols. Responsible for ensuring practices and procedures are in place in order to maintain Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) accreditation. Oversees collaborative review arrangements between institutions and corporate entities as well as the university's IRB Policy Committee. Serves as liaison to other university committees and groups whose purview overlaps with human research protection, research animals, or biohazard research.
Required: Master's degree in equivalent education/exp in relevant area. Minimum 5 yrs experience with university research programs involving human participants or research animals; demonstrated exp interpreting federal and state regulations regarding these research areas; ability to secure the cooperation of university faculty and staff in compliance; complex regulatory analysis, problem solving and organization skills. Should possess excellent writing skills and have a broad understanding of research practice and ethics.
Desired: Previous supervisory exp. IRB professional (CIP) certification desired. Significant clinical research exp desired.
