The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Program Associate provides program support to the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) by performing a variety of administrative, technical, and analytical duties and day-to-day administration under the lead direction of the ORC Director. This position provides compliance guidance based on current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines to all faculty, staff, and students involved in the UNC Charlotte human subjects research; serves as a contact for internal and external stakeholders involved in conducting human subjects research and is responsible for ensuring that all research involving human subjects at UNC Charlotte complies with federal, state, and University regulations and policies.
Manage protocol, amendment, and annual protocol update reviews using timely communications among Institutional Review Board (IRB) members and the PI.
Assists the Program Specialist to ensure that program policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures are reviewed every 3 years as required by federal regulatory entities.
Provides regulatory guidance, member training opportunities and materials, and input to members on an ongoing basis
Works with the ORC Director and program leadership to maintain compliant committee composition including member recruiting and appointment
Maintains program documents for review and audit processes
Utilizes the online protocol submission system to conduct administrative reviews and communicate review results to researchers
Gathers information and material in response to inquiries, and responds to requests for information regarding IRB review.
Verifies that appropriate documentation is obtained before final IRB approval is issued, including ensuring education requirements for all study staff have been met and all required documentation for external performance sites is in place.
Updates database(s) and maintain correct research protocol records.
Helps determine and compile meeting agendas to meet distribution deadline, disseminates meeting agendas and packets, coordinates and attends meetings, document meeting minutes.
Updates information for investigators using various formats; web site, policies, procedures, other materials
Graduation from four-year college or university degree and at least one year of research compliance or Institutional Review Board (IRB) experience.
Work both independently and under supervision.
Independently coordinate, manage and complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
Handle multiple tasks thoroughly and efficiently.
Be Proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Have strong interpersonal, communication, organization, teamwork, and customer service skills.
