The Assistant Vice President for Research Integrity performs executive, administrative duties concerning various aspects of operational management in support of the research mission of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Research.
Position Specific Qualifications: Demonstrated management experience in an area that entails regulatory compliance; Demonstrated ability to manage personnel and large projects; Ability to prioritize and delegate; Extensive knowledge of federal regulations related to research compliance to include regulations related to humans, animals, select agents, financial conflicts of interest, etc.; Ability to maintain focus on multiple tasks; attention to detail.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent writing, analytic and oral communication skills; Ability to work independently and prioritize objectives; Ability to interact effectively with internal and external auditors, administrators, faculty, staff and students; Knowledge of academic budgeting practices
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversight of the administrative operations of the TTUHSC research compliance committees as well as the Quality Improvement Review Board
Supervise Research Integrity Office staff
Provide advice and assistance to investigators related to research compliance committee review
Provide leadership for maintaining AAHRPP and AAALAC accreditation
Develop and direct implementation of TTUHSC research policies; Review current research Operating Procedures for compliance with federal and state regulations
Develop, oversee and promote programs to support a campus culture of responsible research conduct among all members of the TTUHSC community.
Serve as Research Integrity Officer for TTUHSC with regard to allegations of scientific misconduct.
Serve as Chairperson of TTUHSC Research Compliance Committee. Meet with individual faculty chairs of Research Compliance Committees and QI Review Board as needed to ensure efficiency and compliance of committee functioning.
Provide SVPR with information regarding research integrity and research compliance issues at all TTUHSC campuses.
Provide information and assistance to Office of General Counsel, Institutional Compliance Office, Office of Audit Services and other institutional and system-wide compliance groups as requested.
Develop and review inter-institutional agreements to ensure that institutional policies and state and federal regulations are being followed (with assistance as needed from Office of General Counsel)
Provide assistance to colleagues at TTU, TTUHSC at El Paso, and elsewhere regarding issues related to research integrity and research compliance
Take charge of special projects as assigned by SVPR
Provide oversight of funds allocated to support programs of responsible research

RIO manages research compliance committees and provides ongoing monitoring and training for the TTUHSC research community in areas such as human and animal research, lab safety, recombinant DNA, research misconduct, and financial conflicts of interest.
