The Animal Research Facility (ARF) provides space, This position provides veterinary care and fulfills veterinarian responsibilities for the animal care program. This position provides technical guidance and technique training to researchers and staff in the following areas: animal handling, sample collection techniques, compound administration, anesthesia, and regulatory compliance with all regulations and accrediting agency standards. This position performs surgical procedures as required for veterinary care and in support of research protocols, and may lead or direct the work of other animal care staff. This position typically creates, implements, maintains, updates and distributes regulatory compliance documentation. The Veterinarian provides clinical oversight and support in research animal care and use, with concentration on rodents, rabbits, dogs, pigs, fish and frogs. Serves as a voting member on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Assists the IACUC in ensuring that research activities are in compliance with federal, state and local regulatory policies, laws and regulations that are relevant to animal care and welfare. Reviews animal research protocols. Supports departmental biosafety, safety, maintenance/renovation, occupational health and quality assurance programs, as applicable to veterinary care activities |Performs other related duties as assigned.
