Reporting to the Vice President of Research Operations, this position is responsible for establishing, evaluating and overseeing the administrative operations, policies and procedures and supervision of the educational and quality assurance functions of the Human Subjects Protection Program (HSPP), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and controlled substances.
Additionally this individual is responsible for training faculty and researchers in order to provide regulatory guidance and requirements. The position requires knowledge of current federal and state regulations pertaining to the conduct of research and administration of the HSPP, IACUC, and IBC. The position requires strong leadership qualities include the ability to effectively assign and delegate work responsibilities, promote team spirit and initiative among supervisees, and set a model for work excellence and customer service.
Minimum Experience Required: 5-7 years supervisory experience plus 5-7 years regulatory experience.
Minimum Education/Training Required: Graduate degree in a scientific or business discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.
License, Registration or Certification Required: CIP Certification Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Detailed knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to human and animal research.
Working knowledge of applicable scientific and medical concepts and terminology.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Skill in managing and supervising administrative personnel including, time management, training, evaluating job performance, and taking disciplinary actions as necessary to ensure effective program operations.
Ability to write complex documents
Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
Deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
Effectively analyze and solve problems involving highly technical and/or contradictory information
Seek supervision when needed
Handle large volumes of work with frequent interruptions

Interpret and apply ethical principles applicable to human and animal research.
Strong oral presentation skills and the ability to effectively convey concepts regarding human subject protection to a variety of audiences including investigators, research staff, and clinicians.
