The Office of Research Integrity and Compliance in WVU’s Research Office is seeking applications for an IACUC Administrator. This position is responsible for providing high level assistance to the Director of the Animal Welfare Program in assuring that the University maintains compliance with various federal regulations regarding animal research activities by pre-reviewing animal research protocols and amendments, working with researchers/investigators to develop quality protocols and practices for animal research. Supports the effective and efficient operation of the Institutional Animal Care and Use services for WVU including animal use protocol review and associated record-keeping.
In order to be successful, the ideal candidate will:
Conduct the pre-reviews and when necessary, advise researchers/investigators on how to complete the protocol and amendment submissions;
Ensure congruency of protocols and submitted proposals/grants, regardless of funding;
Schedule and coordinate the IACUC meetings and establishing the agenda and minutes for these meetings;
Assist and when necessary participate in Post Approval Monitoring of research activities which entails scheduling appointments with researchers and staff, reviewing approved protocols, site visits, maintaining database, writing reports and then reporting to the IACUC and following-up on any issues that are discussed;
Assist in the scheduling and implementing the semi-annual research facilities inspections program, which entails scheduling OLAR facilities and satellite facilities, site visits, maintaining database, writing reports and then reporting to the IACUC and following-up on any issues that are discussed;
Schedule and participate in the routine research lab inspection program to encompass IACUC review of research area;
Compile and finalize extensive semi-annual reports and then submit to the Director prior to forwarding to the Institutional Official for signature;
Research, draft and maintain animal research policies that would ensure compliance by research investigators;
Develop training documents and presentations of regulations and guidelines for training purposes;
Assist in development and maintenance of electronic systems for IACUC protocols.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in animal science, biology or directly related field.
Three (3) years directly related experience of Institutional Animal Care and Use issues and animal welfare to include animal research experience and protocol development.
Technical knowledge of applicable federal regulations related to IACUC and animal welfare.
Ability to interpret and implement applicable regulations.
Exceptional organizational, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Advanced computer and data management skills in using a PC and Microsoft suite.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures of governmental regulations.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situation where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to keep records and make reports.
Demonstrated ability to provide didactic presentations and training, including preparation of educational materials and hands-on skill development.
Valid driver’s license
Preferred upon hire or the ability to obtain within 3 years of hire date the designation of CPIA (Certified Professional IACUC Administrator)
