The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a federally mandated committee for institutions involved in research with human participants; it serves as a screening unit to review, evaluate, and make recommendations relative to research proposals that utilize human subjects. Under broad supervision and guidance from a faculty administrator, the incumbent in this position is responsible for coordinating a complex range of activities for the Office of Research Services including, but not limited to, assistance with: preparation for and management of IRB meetings, supervision and training of junior IRB staff, delivery of relevant education programs, optimization and streamlining of departmental processes, and database management. The incumbent also ensures compliance with federal regulations involving both Public Health Service and the Food & Drug Administration
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Health Sciences, or related field
Required Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience with minimally proficiency in the following:
Organizational & planning skills
Presentation & writing skills
Ability to interface with federal regulatory agencies, accreditation organizations, scientific community, and drug companies
Ability to relate federal regulations, applicable statutes and policies to university personnel.
Knowledge of federal and university regulations pertaining to research risk assessment procedure in research using humans, record maintenance
Knowledge of department functions as they relate to the original structure of the administrative process
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree with 3 years of professional level administration experience preferably in Human Subject Research, IRB, or medical research ethics.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with electronic IRB processes, preferably in the use of IRBMANAGER
Certified IRB Professional preferred
