The Assistant Director of Research Integrity is responsible for the administration and facilitation of regulatory compliance and assurance efforts associated with research activities at the University of North Florida. This position monitors the activities of and oversees administrative assistance to the Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects (IRB), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and other regulatory committees as appropriate. The incumbent will monitor and analyze developing trends and changes in regulatory compliance laws, rules and regulations, and advise management of the operational impact of such trends and changes, as well as implement new regulatory changes as necessary. The Assistant Director is responsible for the University’s program for educating faculty, staff, and students regarding compliance regulations and responsibilities of human subjects, animal care, biosafety, and related issues. This includes dissemination of presentations to classes and departments upon request and maintenance of the electronic tutorial and certification system. On behalf of the IRB, the Assistant Director analyzes protocol submissions to determine the appropriate level of review in accordance with federal and other appropriate regulations which includes approving all exempted submissions and reviewing submissions eligible for expedited and full board review prior to distribution to board members. The incumbent must ensure that the IRB, IACUC, and IBC records are being maintained appropriately and that the records are accessible, upon request, to authorized federal officials. This position is responsible for managing regulatory compliance web pages and maintaining a comprehensive database of protocols and their on-going disposition. The incumbent will track the University’s compliance with other regulations, including export control, to enable the ORSP to meet its responsibility for certifications.
The Assistant Director supervises the work of one full-time Coordinator of Research Integrity and a part-time research assistant. This position reports to the Director of Sponsored Research. The Assistant Director receives only indirect daily supervision. The Assistant Director helps determine goals and objectives for the division particularly for the Research Integrity functions.
A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and two years experience directly related to the job functions; or a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and four years of experience directly related to the job functions.
