The University Program Specialist is responsible for screening and processing research submissions according to office procedures which includes:
- Identifies, plans and implements strategies to enhance the research submission and review process. - Consistently operates according to OHRI policies and procedures for the protection of human participants in research. - Accurately and correctly conveys UMCIRB determinations to investigators via the electronic Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission, review and tracking system (ePIRATE). Creates ePIRATE reports upon request in an accurate and timely manner. - Interprets and applies all applicable federal, state and local regulations and laws to the daily work of the OHRI. Participates in policy and procedure development and implementation. - Participates in updating and maintaining the OHRI web site as needed. - Critically reviews new and ongoing research submissions to ensure consistency, completeness and accuracy and communicates with involved parties to seek resolution when issues are identified. - Contributes to development of tools to evaluate the research process both internal and external to the OHRI. - Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and documentation of agenda materials and minutes to committee members and institutional officials. Ensures meeting locations and necessary equipment are secured and coordinated for the UMCIRB meetings. - Conducts training and in-services at intervals dictated by the investigator’s and institutions’ needs.
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Prefer experience working in an IRB, critical review of biomedical and social/behavioral research proposals and candidates eligible for Certified IRB Professional (CIP) certification.
