As the Compliance Specialist, you will: review human subject research submissions under the jurisdiction of six Washington state agencies; maintain and coordinate scheduling and act as administrative support for HRRS Reviewers and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrator; maintain, process and monitor the WSIRB inbox; review and provide exempt determinations as directed; provide compliance oversight and jurisdictional determinations under limited supervision; ascertain suitability of human subjects training documentation; provide human subject research investigators with administrative and technical advice; communicate and administer the fees associated with Board reviews; and serve as the primary point of contact for research protocol submissions to the Washington State Institutional Review Board (WSIRB).
Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, law, public health, health administration, or a related field AND Two to three years of experience conducting research and/or analyzing policies, laws, rules or regulations OR Comparable combination of graduate education and experience.

Ability to move equipment and files required to use at IRB and HRRS meetings.
Two years of experience in administering or applying federal human subject protection laws to research preferred.
Two years of experience in Institutional Review Board (IRB) support, including coordination of and participation in regulatory reviews, document management, and communication with IRB members, researchers, research institutions and study sponsors preferred.
Two-years' of experience in providing technical assistance to researchers, IRB members and IRB support staff regarding human research protocol submissions, including familiarity in use of an Electronic Protocol Management Systems (EPMS) for processing and documenting all actions and decisions related to research review, approval and oversight preferred.

The Human Research Review Section is responsible for administering laws and policies for the protection of DSHS and other Washington State agencies, including the Department of Early Learning, (DEL), Department of Health (DOH), the Health Care Authority (HCA), Labor and Industries (L&I) and the Office of Financial Management (OFM). This process assures that the rights, welfare, privacy and safety of all persons who participate as subjects in research, or whose personal records are used in research, for which oversight is in the jurisdiction of these state agencies, are appropriately protected.
