A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) seeks a Director of Community Oriented Primary Care. The Director will provide a foundation for the COPC education of all SOMA students. The Director will work with all stages of trainees at SOMA on COPC. The Director will work with the Department Chair to incorporate Public Health principles throughout the educational continuum. This will include providing content for the dual degree (DO/MPH) program.
The Director of Community Oriented Primary Care provides Postgraduate Year (PGY) 1, 2, and 3 Residents with education and guidance through all three years of the COPC curriculum. The Residents conduct projects which they develop over their 1st year and implement/evaluate over their 2nd and 3rd years.
The Director will promote interprofessional education and research.
Facilitate Interprofessional Community Oriented Primary Care education, research, and practice.
Promote and Support Dual Degree DO/MPH program.
Course Direct OMSIII and OMSIV Public Health rotations. Work to integrate OMSIII and OMSIV dual degree student rotations with Resident projects when possible. Provide COPC mentorship for the development and implementation of these opportunities. Directly supervise rotations to ensure objectives are met for both DO degree and MPH degree.
Cultivate student opportunities and record impressions and outcomes. Work with dual degree students and provide mentorship, career advisement, and information regarding graduate opportunities.
Ensure alignment of DO and MPH curricular elements.
Recruit students and monitor performance in the dual degree program.
Develop and course direct a new clinical rotation course to provide NACHC Medical Director Training to SOMA students. This will start with DO/MPH students and expand to all SOMA students.
Participate in quarterly video conferences with all DO/MPH students to promote interaction and to provide support.
Support, mentor, and supervise Residents through all phases of COPC project development, implementation, and evaluation.
Plan and implement interactive introductory session with incoming residents annually, introducing the research/COPC curriculum, laying out expectations and providing assistance in project planning. This will include on-site training at the annual Resident orientation conference in Scranton, PA, annual attendance to the NACHC CHI, and site visits as assigned.
Participate in monthly videoconferences with each class of the residents to track progress, answer questions, and assure they are meeting deadlines. These will consist of meeting with at least three east coast sites and three west coast sites, for two 1-hour sessions each month. This will be repeated for PGY 1, 2, and 3 class, for a total of six 1-hour sessions each month. As the Residency program grows this will increase.
Provide full COPC curriculum to PGY 1 Residents, with pre-recorded lectures and interactive sessions.
Review PGY 1 case report abstracts and provide feedback and advice to support publication.
Provide direct mentorship to each COPC project team. Review research progress and provide feedback to individuals and groups as needed. This will be ongoing for the year and will involve increased review at the time of presentations/publications. Will include review of multiple drafts of each team’s literature review, proposal, IRB applications, abstracts, posters, oral presentation, and papers.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Public Health or related field. The ideal candidate will be experienced with Microsoft® software, Windows® operating system, databases, and basic computer skills. Professional written and verbal communication.
