The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Research Compliance Officer (RCO) to work collaboratively with University and School-based research support offices to assure that research activities at the University of Pennsylvania adhere to the highest standards of integrity and are conducted in compliance with all applicable government laws and regulations, and University and School policies. This position reports directly to the Vice Provost for Research. Duties include, but are not limited to, documenting the program to monitor research compliance activities conducted by university and school-based offices, hold direct responsibility for the oversight of Penn’s Clinical Research Compliance Office, report to and otherwise interface with the Research Compliance Oversight Committee, and monitor compliance-related activities arising in these offices that report to the Vice Provost for Research: Office of Environmental Health and Radiation Services (EHRS), Office of Research Services (ORS), Office of Animal Welfare (IACUC and Compliance), Institutional Review Board (IRB), Research Integrity Office. This position will also serve as liaison with the Office of Audit, Compliance and Privacy.

The ideal candidate for this position has a Master’s Degree or higher and over 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school or doctoral degree in a scientific field and experience working with faculty and senior university administrators, preferably within a research-intensive academic setting is preferred. Experience related to serving as compliance officer or university counsel is strongly preferred but not required. Knowledge of academic and industry collaborations and entrepreneurial endeavors is helpful. It is important to have a working knowledge of the conduct of clinic and basic science research, and to be well-informed about the regulatory environment. Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional Program (CCEP) through the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) is a plus.
